The on-line arm of Ben Vidgen: author, broadcaster, publisher and the world's only autistic and dsylexic consulting detective. Ben's site strives to offer non-partisan, non dogmatic, news on arts, music, cuisine, plus current affairs & independent public sourced investigative reporting on New Zealand (Aotearoa) & the wider world. Ben however warns if your at all squemish about seeing grand ma (grammar) bashed up then this is probably NOT!! the site for you. Diagnosed as both dyslexic and autistic Ben has worked as investigative journalist, researcher for a number of NZ/Australian publications, radio stations, as well as working for universities & NGOs for over thirty years in Australia and New Zealand. During which time he has written two New Zealand based best sellers (State Secrets 1 & 2), worked for corporate media (shudder) as a private researcher for some of the most toxiously obnoxious people on the planet before he went independent and began producing his own popular newspaper/magazines books under his DEADLINE label. Ben specialises in organised crime and national security reporting and general injustice. Ben holds a degree in history and political science (where he focused on counter terrorism and poltical violence). Ben is a former New Zealand Army reservist who served in the Royal Artillery and the Infantry with posting in signals, artillery intelligence, field and counter intelligence, reconnaissance. This is in addition to being a rifleman & unit grenadier. Ben asides from producing Fresh FM's top rating current affairs show 'The DEADLINE REPORT' and being a truely terrible driver works as a consulting investigator (Detective) for a UK based special geopolitical analyst firm who specialise in money laundering by organised crime involved in serious crimes such as financing terrorism, fraud and human trafficking, on behalf of media companies and insurance & banks in the UK. Ben's hobbies include collecting 'Sheldon Cooper' T-shirts, 'stand up tragedy' and talking to cats and dogs who he insist really do have far better common sense, good karma and conservational skills than your average human. Which is not hard Ben points out considering that the average human well watch in their life over 78,000 hours of TV and read less than 700 books in the same time frame and we all wonder why the planets so messed up.
A perfect man made storm caused by; 1. Increased temperatures (for sure and forecast by CSIRO as early as 1987), 2.Dumb fire break rules, 3.Ignoring the fire chief’s analyst they would need fire fighting aircraft. 4. Rejecting offer of fire fighting aircraft from Russia (2009 – aircraft now snapped up by US firm possibly as a form of privatising emergency humanitarian fire fighting efforts. The fire fighting retardants dumped from craft are themselves a questionable bolting of the stable door, as a result of parking the ambulance at the bottom (as opposed to land rejuvenation and water security measures being deployed instead), 5.Holding military exercise in peak risk areas using flammable chaf 5. Doppler radar microwaves and electromagnetic stimulation of atmosphere (ionising sky and stimulating lighting and potentially fire tornadoes in turn), 6. Rainmaking materials that soak ground with flammable and toxic materials adding further soil and water degradation,7. Arson (105cases) and some of that need deeper analyst regarding why some were charged some were not 9. Fuel truck fires, 10. Water privatisation and speculation 11. Lack of water drying out vegetation, 12. Antarctic dry winds, a regular predicable weather pattern not taken into account visa long term planning. 13. Fire department budget cuts and red tap resulting in personnel restrictions and issue recruiting volunteers 14. Outlawing fire department fund raising 15. Intensive logging 16. Allowing urbanisation to occur in high risk fire areas — The Proceedings of the Third International Symposium on Fire Economics, Planning United States Forestry Service 2009 By Armando González Cabán (a highly recommenced read) pretty much vindicates me on a lot these points, especially the point they knew it was coming but the powers that be chose to do nothing or close to it.
Feel free to add your thoughts but gist is what ever your views might be on climate change. It does not change the fact the powers that be knew it was coming (as their own long term modelling forecast it) and they not only sat back did zilch but they made sure that everything they could do to put wood on the fire happened – a perfect storm that is now helping to generate food energy and water scarcity that will drives prices sky high.
The issue of the toxicity of fire retardants however also underscores a policy which did not focus on preventative medicine in term of fire management, national water security and ignore proactive highly successful rejuvenation techniques outlined below.
1987 CSIRO experts saying what will happen with fires and yet (and it makes no difference if you believe in climate change or not, as that’s not the point) and yet the rule of thumb is they did nothing that would help them deal with the anticipated threat and every thing that would enhance the risk
Yet while fire breaks restriction are blamed on fire in cases that accusation not true in every case. “Everything that should be done, was done and lots more”.
The point to take away is there is not one sole cause but a collective set of causes many of which were forecast all of which have an predictable economic fall out and will enhance further centralisation of power and wealth.

TEMPERATURE SPIKE AT MALLACOOTA NOT A NATURAL PHENOMENONAround 8am two days ago the ambient air temp at Mallacoota Inlet in VC suddenly rose from 24C to over 48C in less than 30 minutes, then returned to 24C in another 30 minutes. No natural phenomenon could do this. A direct lightning strike to the weather station would make a much more abrupt and extreme spike off the chart. This happened as the town was waking up to pitch blackness when it should have been a sunny day, and was shortly engulfed by a massive fire-storm that had moving at the unprecedented speed of covering 20 kms in 4 hours. These charts are from two different sources, one of them BOM

Driving through rural Australia, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish country hit by fires from country where even native vegetation has turned up its heels through lack of water.
