Riverside Community is New Zealand’s oldest intentional community, founded in 1941 by a group of Christian Pacifist. Located in a tranquil rural setting 8km from the township of Motueka, it lies close to beautiful beaches of the Abel Tasman and the impressive mountain ranges of the Kahurangi National Park.
The recently opened Great Taste Cycle Trail passes directly by the Community providing a great opportunity to stop for a rest and enjoy the well-known cuisine and the beautiful gardens of the Riverside Café, take a rejuvenating stroll to the lake or enjoy the peace and calm among the native trees of our bush walk.
Riverside offers comfortable and affordable accommodation to travellers and cyclists who wish to stay a bit longer and are interested in getting a glance of community life or wish to take part in one of our educational or recreational workshops.
The attractive Riverside Community and Cultural Centre is perfect venue for weddings, business conferences, or private functions. For those who wish to get a deeper insight into community living, volunteering at Riverside offers the unique opportunity to engage in the activities of community life, and learn about the joys and challenges of co-operative living https://www.riverside.org.nz
