Most people think the human memory is like a film roll. It’s not it’s more like a series of slides, and our brain fill in the blanks over years some slides get damaged or lost and some you never forget or at the very least as i learn watching my sister and mother slide into Alzheimer’s last longer than other. Perhaps it your first kiss, your favorite car, for me one such memory is 911.

I can remember exactly where I was when 911 occurred.

I was sitting on my couch it was 2.30 Amish in the morning, and the BBC was on in the background. I was burning the late-night oil, as I was in the process of writing the second chapter of my next book. An extenuation of my research into New Zealand’s role in the mass illicit laundering of weapons that for the next 17 years my New Zealand colleagues in the corporate media would deny existed. New Zealand mainstream media firmly embedded with Media would deny it as a reality right up until 2007* when the front papers of every major newspaper contain the story of how a NZ leased Antonov had turned up in Thailand with a shipment of weapons and a paper trail of shifty cash that led right back to the same NZ bank accounts that had helped launder those billions in the precise manner I had spelt out in 1999 and in 2006 when the second state secrets was published and the editor of one of New Zealand major paper past back the book gifted to him by mutual friend replying ‘I don’t read conspiracy theories without having looked at a single page.’ To be clear that paper lent its full weight behind the building of hundred-million-dollar stadium in classic example of crony capitalism which basically bankrupt an entire city just and its critics had forecast.

• For decades New Zealand media would repeat, with chest puffed up with parochial pride, that New Zealand was the least corrupt country in the world. What they failed to report was we only got a perfect score of zero because when Transparency International sent out the survey they used to get sent without any boxes being ticked. Meanwhile if you look at the main corruption cases in New Zealand the Gang of Twenty the Wine Box Inquiry and even the Paradise Papers, which implicated the Trust that had John Key (the head of the ANZ bank and former New Zealand Prime Minister), the same scenario would play out each time. Namely an accusation would be made, and politicians would deny or dismiss the scale of corruption and then it would turn out the accusation was true, and little would be done to fix the problem.

The purpose of my second book, which I would publish in 2006, was to catalogue ten case studies of arms dealer and terrorist who had financial connection to my own country New Zealand. It purposely included photographed examples of such front firms and numerous photos of the various Russian aircraft that were routinely landing in NZ (and whose call sign identified them as recidivist black market arms traffickers) to underscore the level of documentation that existed behind each case. In each case these planes could be identified as being in the arms for oil diamonds and gold trade.

In each case my chosen case studies where simply an actor in a theatre that inevitably revolved around the control and exploitation of natural resources. 

As I typed about this money trail of terror, I watch jaws opened as the first Boeing smashed into the first of the towers in New York City. Even before the second plane appeared my stomach sunk, as if I had been dropped from a great height. I knew this made for TV drama was just the first salvo in a grand bloodletting that was about to be unleashed, as people howled predictably for vengeance, that would utterly alter the geopolitical landscape of the twenty first century kicking civil liberties to the curb as it went. I was yet to fully comprehend the symbolic importance of the Twin Towers as the dominant feature on the landscape of America’s financial capital. Nor did I immediately link it to what I was writing about at that exact moment.

I would comprehend this was a terrorist attack and terror attacks of this scale need a lot financing. In the magic land of Hollywood, the issue of where the hero’s nemesis obtains their fiancés (or more specifically bank them), for all those things that go boom is rarely dwelt upon. Only weeks earlier I learned that as late as 1999 Canadian officials had arrested terrorist Ahmed Ressan after. His arrest prompted by the discovery that in the boot of his car, checked as he crossed the US Canadian border, where enough explosives to blow up a sky scrapper. That find had me focusing on the Al Farooq Mosque located in Brooklyn and from their the money trail would lead me to New Zealand own’s role in the Guns for Oil trade.

• In addition to donation made to the Brookly Mosque have made numerous cameo appearance in CIA FBI NSA ect reports concerning both terrorism and counter terrorism case and the recruitment of mercenaries used to fight in western Saudi backed adventures.

The 911 Commission acknowledged Ahmed Ressa had also trained in the use of cyanide which had been involved in the early attack against the twin towers in 1993. I had not known this precise fact at the time, but I was aware that the Brooklyn Mosque was a hot bed of intrigue. I knew it had multiple connection not just with Islamic extremist but with the US operations in Bosnia an arms trail that I had written about six years earlier. According to the Cananda magazine pre twin Towers attack Al Zawahiri’s visited the Al Kifah Centre in Brooklyn, which was also visited by the 911 terrorists and those responsible for the 1993 attack on the World Trade Centre. The purpose of Al Zawahiri’s U.S. trips according to Mclean visit was to recruit soldiers for wars involving U.S. interests in the Balkans. The passport of Osama Bin Laden lieutenant, according to the Canadian current affairs magazine and other new outlets, had been rubber stamped with the CIAs approval. I would write in 2006 According to CIA Agent Robert Baer Bosnian Muslims constantly tried to mislead his team about the true scale of the Mujahedin mercenary army which my own sources reported had formed human waves against dug in fortified possession. Their bodies loaded into trucks that dripped blood and stained the ground red as their Soviet style weapons were recovered passed on to new recruits or where sent to the US armoury at Camp Eagle in Tuzla Bosnia.

Baer’s report paints for consideration, the picture that the two CIA teams’ objectives were not necessarily always the same. While Baer “actively pursued” orders to expel Muslim fighters (by applying political pressure), a “blind eye” was turned to the presence of Iranian Revolutionary Guards, tolerated as part of America’s “tacit agreement”, due to their role in supplying arms to the Bosnian Muslims, presumably by orders coming down from the station chief in Zagreb.

Robert Barer, the CIA station officer in Sarejvo, admits in his own book that what the office in Bosnia knew and what was passed down to his office was not always the same. While Robert Loftus a pro Israrli US Justice department Nazi hunter confirmed, who I interviewed him in early 2000s, that US support of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (having inherited the remake of the Nazi backed Al Banna network post war) was common knowledge during his time working with US spies. Though by Baer tenure only a fews newspaper clippings of this relationship remained.

Whereas by Baer time it was clear the CIA was running two policies – a legal one and a second off the book policies that had no problems hiring its enemies if the threat was perceived greater. 

Glen Carle a former CIA officer, with pro Clinton sympathies, would also admit this on one my radios show on Otago Universities Radio One. Carle agreed that off the reservation (non-sanctioned) operations where one of the reasons he had left the agency, out of conscience, where he had served as an interrogator. Though Carle quickly became angry when I suggested the official 911 Commission had flaws in it. Namely it made no mention of entire building (WTC7) which had also collapsed on the day.

I published my story in December 1995 as a freelance. State of Terror was my first paid piece, in international publication, albeit one that catered for alternative news. Regardless in April I was vindicated when James Risen and Doyle Mcmanus at the LA time on April 5th 1996 and then the Washington Post in May followed up on my story and confirmed the Clinton administration had “Green lit” an Islamic funded arms network paid for by Indonesia Iran and Pakistan in return for 30% of those weapons being passed to the Croatian arm forces spear headed by Neo Nazi, far right militia volunteers and Eastern European bikers. The conflict would pave the way for NATO to start expanding eastward towards Russia in breach of the Regan administrations promise to Mikhail Gorbachev in 1991.

In addition, the Brooklyn Mosque, which had been identified as recruiting jihadist for Bosnia and Chechnya could also be connected to attacks in Kenya. Whereas with the original 1993 Twin Towers bombing a key actor responsible had being an FBI intelligence informer. 

A fact which has led to several articles, over the years, asking whether several contemporary terror attacks had been a result of not so much an “inside job” but the result of the intelligence community been overly keen to make bust. To the point they had crossed the road and used the informers to engage in entrapment techniques with horrible results when they failed to act in time. Others speculated the American handler of such sketchy informers had themselves been fooled as a result of putting to much trust in their informers who by their very occupation where dangerous manipulative individuals. 

By the morning of 911 I had been focusing on the money trail that had led me from the Iraq FFOP to Al-Taqwa a rogue bank founded by a Neo Nazi convert to Islam which the UN has said has served as a conduit for “weapons smuggling”.

Al-Taqwa’s founder Swiss born Ahmed Huber was a man with two passions represented by images of both Hitler and Osama Bin Laden he had on the wall of his Switzerland office. His office located in the Lugarno a long-established hub of underground banking intrigue and transnational cross border shenanigans. The border town is located half a train days train ride from both Germany and Italy. 

Huber is the elephant in the room who spoils the neat narrative that the Far Right opposes Islam. When the reality is these ideologies have often been allies. And more importantly that the sugar daddies of terror don’t actually care what the ideology of their extremist are. The financiers of terror just care that their beneficiaries are willing and mailable pawns be they left wing, right wing, Islamic, nationalist separatists ect ect ect.

The reality of international terrorism, as for example Patrick Steel 1992 book ‘Abu Nidal A Gun For Hire’ argues, is the longer any terror organization survives the more it drifts toward a status of being more like a paid thug than a truly ideology-based ‘revolutionary’. And when we consider the analyst of both the later Benazir Bhutto the assassinated Prime Minister of Pakistan and John Oneil, a former head of NY FBI’s Counter Terrorism Desk who died as the chief of security for the Twin Towers, concerning those who emerged as Osama Bin Laden paymasters 911 is no different. Oneil and Bhutto would both blame black gold and the politics of oil as responsible for financing the bulk of so-called Islamic terrorism. And they would both allege, before their violent deaths, at the hands of terrorist, that the real trigger men of modern-day terrorism where those who financed the oil and mining industry. That more often than not those financing bloodshed were playing both sides of the street.

The money trail behind Al-taqwa in relation to New Zealand’s ties to terrorism strongly support Bhutto and Oneil’s analyst. After 911 Al-Taqwa was quickly outed as conduit for the sugar daddies who had funded the September 11th attack on the Twin Towers (and other inter Arabic wars in the Sudan and Yemen) keeping the attackers well supplied with all their needs which included air lessons, rent, food, speeding tickets and stripper dollars.

The context I had begun writing about the Swiss based terror bank, in the days before the 911 attack, regarded its specific ties to the corrupt United Nation’s FFOP and a Yemen based firm HSA limited.

The HSA conglomerate of Yemen would sell $400M worth of goods to Saddam Hussein between 1996 and 2003 under Iraq’s monitored oil-for-food program. A large percentage of those sales originating from Pacific Interlink Indonesia division of HSA. Pacific Interlink would sell $20M worth of palm oil to Saddam in 2001. (Source; A ‘Thesis Presented to the Faculty of San Diego State University in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Science in Homeland Security‘ by Jason Jonathan Vaught Summer 2011). Less than two weeks after the attacks of 9/11, U.S. President George W. Bush issued Executive Order 13224, “Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Person Who Commit, Threaten to Commit or Support Terrorism.” A lengthy list of companies and individuals was included in the order, and prominent among those individuals on Altaqwa’s board of directors was Youssef Ahmed Idris Nasreddin, avowed members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

According to The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs when I filed an Official Information Act request nearly 80% of the dairy goods which arrived in Iraq as part of the corrupt UN aid program came from New Zealand. The Paul Volcker report identifies 23 firms 22 of which are a subsidiary of Pacific Interlink the Indonesia division of HSA. The United Nations Security Council issued a notice on May 15, 2007 listing both MIGA and Nasreddin as “belonging to or associated with the Al-Qaida organization,”

Banca del Gottardo better known as the Vatican Bank is the bank linked to 1990s arms trafficking in the Balkans by the Fascist clandestine organization Propaganda Duo. P2 being the Italian splinter cell off the NATO back Il Gladio – a Cold War asset gone rogue. In Lugano, Switzerland, the bank had moved al-Qaeda money via the Al Taqwa bank, a shell bank that operated through correspondent accounts at the Gottardo branch in Nassau in the Pacific. This is where the Panama Papers, set up by Jurgen Mossack the son of a Nazi and member of ODESSA the Nazi post war resistance organization based in Switzerland would first come to the attention of dirty money investigators.

In France Banque Paribas, headquartered in Paris, a significant portion of its shares owned by Saddam’s cousin Nadhmi Auchi. It would be the according to New York journalist Lucy Komisar bank chosen to handle the Iraqi oil-for-food payments. In fact, Iraq insisted that Paribas handle the oil-for-food escrow account. A corporate document for Al Taqwa Trade, Property and Industry Co. Ltd. of Liechtenstein – an al-Qaeda network shell company also shut down by the United States – lists Banque Paribas, Lugano, where it had accounts. (Paribas in 2000 merged with another French bank to create BNP Paribas, with Auchi continuing as one of the largest shareholders.) It had previously handled the $US 4.6 billon, used by Saddam Hussein to buy weapons in war, lent to it by the US Department of Agriculture when Clayton Yeutter, the future consultant to Fonterra the New Zealand dairy giant, was Secretary of Agriculture under George Bush.* The so called Iraq-gate affair.

• It a minor but important point to high light Komisar links BNP to Saddam and she notes BNP received money from Al Taqwa. Komisar does not illustrate those accounts were used for anything specific. Ditto NZ milk sales lead us back to HSA which is linked to AL Taqwa board and the Muslim Brotherhood which had a relationship with western Intelligence and multiple academic and experts can confirm. The overall point is Komisar seek to link Saddam specifically to the 911 attack but fiscally there is no evidence of any such connection or fore knowledge, and it could be argued in light of the bank’s connection to P2 (in-turn of proximity and financial flow) and Banca del Gottardo the BNP someone was deliberate laying of false trail. Though if this is the case then 911 goes from an issue of entrapment gone wrong to the inside job scenario. Which in light of the identification of Mohammed Atta in Czechoslovakia (on the same day as his the hijackers got a ticket in Florida) by Czech police assisted by Israeli intelligence who made sure the police saw “Atta ” meet an Iraqi intelligence official to receive a brand of Anthrax that hit the US shortly after 911 (impacting first the realtor [the wife of newspaper editor]who rented Atta and his follow terrorist their home in Florida), leading to the hawks calling out Iraq. Only to then have the Anthrax be identified by the Federate of American Scientist as originating from the US own stockpile of chemical weapons this scenario is not far-fetched or unreasonable. The Israeli Czechoslovakia case is the smoking gun of existing intelligence operation “guided leak” to leave a trail of false crimes before the 911 attack that would ultimately lead back to Iraq. At best the Iraq AL Taqwa is simply a case of militants raising cash from illicit source and that it was Saddam a mere sideline at worse it was part of coordinated attempt to frame Iraq which fell apart when the false trial fell apart forensically.
  
• In April 2001, Atta was arrested in Broward County, Florida, for driving without a license. He got a license a week later.

Before I learned how HSA was connected to New Zealand dairy food and its role in the corrupted FFOP I had already learn about Millbrook Queenstown New Zealand’s connection to the rogue UN program. As it turns out that Millbrook connection also had a prominent role in the story on George Moonlight that my mother Jenny was writing about gold and the events that shaped New Zealand gold rush history. It was the point where her love of history and my love of geopolitics would serendipitously collide.

Arrowtown has one main street lined with old historic miners’ cottages, that today fetch about a million apiece. located in between up market restaurants covered in vines, ye old pubs with hand pulled pints, the town is steeped in history and once upon time a gourmet bakery that served the best apricot chicken pies on the planet. Arrowtown hadn’t always been called Arrowtown. Back in 1860 it was known as Fox Town, named after one of George Moonlight crew Bill Fox. Fox didn’t discover the gold, but he would be responsible for revealing the secret that Arrowtown river was full of gold. Fox and Moonlights syndicate would make a lot of cash out of the Arrow River. And Fox would show how the business of mining could be a bloody one.

“Knife!”

James Caulfield was the first to see the glint of metal in Bill Fox‟s hand. Caulfield reached out and grabbed Fox‟s arm, but the big Irishman was too strong and broke Caulfield‟s grip. Fox stabbed McCoy in the ribs. Fox caused no trouble and quietly followed Fleming to the police cells in Queenstown. McCoy was close to death. If he had not received prompt and professional medical treatment, Fox would have faced a murder charge”

There have always been questions regarding who really wielded the knife that nearly killed McCoy. Regardless the big Irishman Patrick William Fox avoided serious repercussion. The usual rules were bent for Patrick for the simple fact he and his brotherhood of miners were making way too much money to let a thing like nearly murdering someone to get in the way of a river of literal gold.  The more thing changes the more they stay the same it would seem.

Fox had been a close companion of George Moonlight since the two of them had jumped ship with back in San Francsico in around 1849. In New Zealand Fox and George would be among the small group of miners who “secretly working the Arrow River in the short period before the rush truly started and law and order arrived“: At the time Moonlights fame as a successful gold prospector was so well known and he would often rife at knight armed with the same brand of pistols that artisan gunsmith George Dawes had made for Giuseppe Garibaldi the Italian revolutionary who own secret syndicate Propaganda Uno would be emulated by the far right lodge P2 nearly two hundred years later. Its existence pose problematic questions concerning the standard account of George death

Fox would be elected commissioner of the Arrow town gold field by his fellow miner when the secret was out. And in this role Fox devised the system “whereby each miner was allocated a sixty-foot frontage to the river. Fox enforced these rules with an iron hand and justice was simple – anybody who jumped a claim or disputed the law had to fight him!” .

Fox town before and after it’s outing ultimately attract an exotic cast of characters such Ah Lum the Chinese tong leader (who was seen by Europeans as the leader of Arrowtown and Mace town Chinese gold mining community). There had been Buckingham family entertainers after whom the main street of Arrowtown is named and Bully Hayes the one eared card cheat, black birder and gun runner, who owned Arrowtown’s most popular drinking venue the New Orlean and perspicuously feuded with the Buckinghams (who owned the United States Hotel) before seducing their daughter Rosie and stealing their prized cat. A matter that unlike the daughter stealing ended in court upon whom Jennys poem on the famous feud ends “and the cat cared not for he had two meals a day one at one end of town and the other at the t’other”.

Each character had their own allies and enemies, and the mining town heaved with intrigue and secrets that only gold can generate. Miners in the business of finding gold and keeping as much as they could for themselves often belonged to several or more syndicates – some public and informal. These were mere commercial alliances of conveniency. Other were rooted in complex agendas camouflaged by layers of deception and covet to their core. 

The original Fox ‘secret’ syndicate of diggers was largely informal and not institutional built rather from the intimacy common to sailors and men of the sea. 

It included Fox, his old ship mates George Moon Light, Jack Tarrant, George’s younger cousin Tom Moonlight, Jack Tewa (Māori Jack another of Georges companions and after whom Jacks Point in Queenstown is named) and nearby the three Mace brothers John, Charles and Harry, surveyors by profession, upon whom Macetown is named. It began life as ‘Twelve-Mile’ because of the distance of their claim from Fox’s mining camp down the river from Arrowtown, past the bridge where today bungy jumpers pay serious money to leap of perfectly good bridge and along a crooked road that become when winter set black with ice that menaces and intimates even the most skilled of drivers offering a steep drop for those who lose their nerve or footing.

In the 1990s the Mace Brothers ancestor New Zealand born David Mace of Ernst & Young Hong Kong and Bao Steel a US Chinese still giant would be picked to by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to be a member of the United Nations’ compensation commission in the wake of Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait overseeing the UNFFOP program and the allotment of oil concession.

Around the same time the seed for two books would be born out of the FFOP fiasco.

One was titled ‘When the Cows Come Home’ and the other was ‘The Syrian Connection’ written by Ross Meurant an ex-police officer turned armed dealer before he became a director in Prok Bank a Russian tax haven based in Vanuatu with office in New Zealand.*

• In 1990 Meurant was a. National MP with a background in arms and mercenary recruitment before he formed the short-lived political party Right of Centre party.

Prok co-directors would include two former KGB offices the Shumilovs and the former head of the New Zealand Dairy Board in Russia Ian Robertson. Robertson’s firm Vostock Exports website declares it deals in NZ Dairy items, Middle Easten oil and Russian made munitions*

• To be precise Vostok deal in the business s of making deplete uranium rounds that kill civilians for thousands of years after they are fired at military targets as Iraq post war cancer rate testify. Vostock, which went into liquidation in 2013, boast they are the largest Supplier and Manufacturer of Armaments and Ammunition in Canada. In 1995 was invited to consult and accompany the trade minister Don McKinnon throughout Europe in conjunction with Trade NZ. Vostok Services also represents General Dynamics Ordnance Systems Tactical Inc. They are the largest Supplier and Manufacturer of Armaments and Ammunition in Canada specifically Depleted Uranium rounds.

During the FFOP Robertson Russians would assist the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affair in the Vina Milk FFOP program operating out of the New Zealand consulate in Vietnam. Kickbacks were often incorporated into contracts, so suppliers could recover the money from the UN’s escrow account. Invoices submitted by Vinafood show how dramatically the new charges rose: one 2001 invoice involves fees of $25 per million tones for transporting rice; in 2002, it was $65 pmt. This is important fact for one of Mace job was to ensure audit spotted and questioned such discrepancies and the Volckner report is particularly harsh on the fact that such audits where never conducted even on the rare occasion question were asked and payment where always made that favored the tenders exchange rates.

Prok also dealt in rare mineral such as Osmium which is used in the manufacture of detonator for nuclear weapons. And Prok would be part of a consortium called. Wellnet Holdings which is listed in the paradise papers and is vehicle for Portcullis Trust in the Cook Island. My colleague Nicky Hager has linked this firm to those at the heart of the Wine Box Inquiry, the plunder of the Philippines by the Marcos family and the theft of public money by Robert Mugabe the Zimbabwe (Rhodesia)) dictator.

In July 2008, TrustNet according to Nicky Hager and Prangtip Daorueng set up a British Virgin Islands company called Hall Kingston International for a Thai businesswoman and current cabinet minister named Nalinee Taveesin including tobacco trading, gray-market arms trading and trafficking, equity investments, oil distribution, tourism, sports management, and diamond extraction. TrustNet in turn helped set up a company called Hinterland Mining Brokers Limited, listing its directors as four ex-special forces officers from Britain, Fiji and New Zealand who’d been hired to protect mining sites in central Sierra Leone from opposition groups.

WellNet (now called BURWILL HOLDINGS LIMITED) was made up of collections of partners including included Bao Steel the firm Mace had a role in plus an armada of Chinese government owned state hedge funds. Its junior partners include Prok, Fay Richwhite the New Zealand merchant bank which had relocated to Switzerland shortly after the Wine Box tax scandal gave birth to stories of a mysterious Guns for Butter deal.

‘The Syrian Connection’ cover jacket states “The Syrian Connection By Ross Meurant Action adventure. Alain Foveaux, a former New Zealand military officer, is contracted to use his knowledge of the Middle East to procure phosphate from Syria for export to New Zealand, in defiance of American sanctions. With Russian help, the New Zealander sets up a labyrinth of bank accounts to evade the American blocks on payments to Syria, provoking aggressive initiatives by the local CIA operative. As he was regularly cited in local press for his philanthropy and charity work as he was appointed New Zealand Freemasons’ Grand Master for the period 2004 – 2006 keeping up the family tradition of having penchant for belonging to invite only clubs and nodes.

For some reason in contemporary society the idea that private clubs and exclusive alumni facilitate crony capitalism and the dark side of para politics is often frowned upon. Now as much as it was two hundred years ago during the peak gold rush period where mining nodes, syndicates, private clubs, exclusive social alumni and friendship societies where often how miners and colonist survived and thrived. 

Especially in the lawless environs of mining booms, and like modern-day terror or clandestine cell, each syndicate be it a gathering of work mates such as the Fox Moonlight collective, an ethnic based friendship society like the Tongs or Garibaldi Club, or religious founded society like the Catholic based Opius Dei, had its individual customs complete with close shop jargon, symbols and hand signals and rituals. 

These closed shops usually borrowed from popular friendship societies, well known gentlemen’s clubs, clan traditions, sea farer rituals and local customs, then mixed up and customized by each group according to need and fashion. These social nodes would themselves change or morph their customs as new events and adventures shaped each syndicate style and purpose. Yet whatever the name or style of such collective, the source of such rituals and secrecy, was ultimately tribal and formed from base requirement of mutual protection both social and economic.

In one quirky example I came across a publican and two miners in a Australian gold mining town thwart armed robbery after the publican flashes a masonic handshake to one of the miners who had come to the bar for a drink. The miner having worked in the New Zealand fields then translated the warning to his comrade using a bit of pigeon Māori. The two miners had adapted Maori as a private language so the pair could use to converse in private. In this case it had allowed a turning of the tables as the those about to be ambushed were secretly armed by the publican who then with the miners help successfully beat off the would-be attackers when they drew their guns and prepared to attack and rob the hotel.

The most well-known example of a miners’ “secret society” a truely clandestine affair is perhaps the Molly Maguires, a group of Irish American and Irish immigrant coal miners in Pennsylvania who would be outted by the all seeing eye of the same Pinkerton detective agency who had pursued Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to Boliva at a time when the Colorado mining and Wyoming cattle companies where duking it out with the New York banks and San Franscisco based Rail magnates for control of America’s economic heart.

In the 19th century Molly Maguires would fought for miners’ rights using violence and intimidation in the Apalachin mountain ranges. It was a time when coal company in turn hired private armies to machine gun and bomb striking miners. The Moonlight syndicate and going on of Fox town where in comparison a far less violent or formal kind of collective and aside from Fox’s alleged knife play and Moonlights famous right hook there seems little evidence the Moon Light’s posse ever operated underhanded or used unnecessary bloodshed.

At the other end of spectrum socially and morally you had a different kind a collective the cartel like Syndney Syndicates, such as the New South Wales New Zealand Company, who later gave birth to the BNZ and ANZ merchant banks when the Australian New Zealand gold rush had begun. 

Such firms dripped with malevolent secrets and intrigue. Especially when the Sydney forefathers of major banks, often former convicts, set out to create a monopoly on trading musket for flax – when four muskets purchase a ton of flax (New Zealand Flax Trade, 1831, p. 2). Lord set out to secure the flax for musket trade. His interest in arms trafficking oddly enough was prompted by a massacre of 1809 when Māori from the iwi Ngāti Pou in northern New Zealand had killed and eaten 66 and 70 European crew members from the British built brigantine Boyd, which Lorde owned, after attempt to punish a high-born chief for an alleged theft or slight of some kind.

While many Māori had requested British rule as a form if protection against tribes now armed with thousands of muskets and staggering amount of black powder and ammunition. In similar vein Fiji requested aid after Tongan tribes became armed.

The Musket wars has many secrets yet to be revealed.

Bill’s own breech of the Fox/Moonlight syndicate precious secret of a river full of gold had made him admittedly for period unpopular with his own mining associates. Yet his success as miner and as a person who shared his wealth soon healed any ill feelings. At his peak Fox owned a large freight boat on Lake Wakatipu as well as several pubs includingthe Four Alls at Arthur’s Point. Fox however like Moonlight his old shipmate would not end his years wealthy, and he died on 9 April 1890 in Reefton bankrupt and broken, having drunk most of his wealth away. 

Regardless a huge crowd turned up for his funeral and he was eulogized for his bravery and his prospecting skills. His passing along with the remainder of the 49ers would mark the end of the old school mining and it’s code of fair play and a chance for all. The age of adventurous independent physically and mentally tough individuals with a strict moral code was in the coming age of industrialism pulverized into dust and blown into the realms of myth and history.

As the 20th Century opened and fluttered it’s eyes amidst the stench of smoke stacks and mechanized warfare mining and commerce was now the prelude of a new kind of syndicate. One made up of professional geologist’s lawyers accountants and bankers’ men of sophistication often associated with exclusive schools or ivy league colleges and affiliated social alumni. Their hands might not be as tough as the old timers but avarice made the new firm insatiable and blood thirsty.

Today Arthur Point and Arrowtown remains a popular enclave for expiates of these a new kinds of syndicates and the minions who enforce their commison. One formed from the close brotherhood that exist in the mining drilling security and intelligence industry – former spies, special force and private security types who like the miners and mariner of yesterday also have their rituals and inhouse customs and even humor. In the reception of one local accommodation venue, run by a former member of the New Zealand SAS, a sign states ‘who cares wins’ an in-joke at the elite regiment famous motto ‘who dares wins’

The neighbors of these new firms include upwardly mobile professional accountants and lawyers (who are sometimes hired by the brotherhood -say for example when they have to threaten a local journalist with lawsuits) holiday homes and top price air B&B and luxury resort. And it at such locations you might find junior members of the new firm working part time in roles covering security chauffeuring and general fixing of problems that need discernment and diplomacy. Likewise the New Orlean remains a functioning pub that continues to generate legendary tales. Such as when it unearthed a fortune in gold dust beneath the floorboard after it was decided to refloor the heritage hotel. Down the road from the New Orlean Hotel and cross the road sit the Last Post restaurant whose own history in turn reveals the new kind of brotherhood that has now set up shop in the old gold mining town which is now service by gated communities of establishment such as Millbrook and a number of custom-built billionaire bunkers, with several stories how the likes of Donald Trump backer and friend to the cyber spies Peter Thiel are setting up their zombie apocalypse escape villa in Otago New Zealand exclusive neighborhoods. Externally these communities exude respectability and manicured tranquility. It’s inmates wearing Cashmere and Angora or Le Coste golfing shirts. But dont let appearances fool you this posse of bankers, hedge fund managers, tech kleptocrats are every bit as fearsome as the knife wielding Irish compatriot of George Moonlight Bill Fox. Though more often their rapier of choice is stamped with the legends ‘Blah Blah & Partners’.

To illustrate that point with personal experience it was because of the Last Post owner, a wealthy American hedge fund billionaire, I ended up under the threat of legal action by Richard V Allen the American shareholder in Yukos Oil Russia and business partner Graham Smolenski, whose background is casinos, who had helped managed the Millbrook golfing resort in its early years. Allen’s friend had been outraged by my publication DEADLINES 2005 write of Allen’s role in the Lockheed Martin bribes and the Iran Contra scandal. The later involved American ultra conservatives secretly funding Islamic and far right extremist in Afghanistan and Nicaragua via a network of Saudi and Swiss banks.

Both scandals Lockheed and the Iran Contra would involve another investor in New Zealand’s luxury accommodation scene the Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi who would own 33 percent of the Travel Lodge chain of hotels co owned by Candian mining magnate Peter Munk of Barrick Gold. Kashoggi (who coincidently had called his own luxury headquarters Millbrooks as well) was third shareholder in the New Zealand based Travel Lodge later renamed the Southern Pacific Hotel Corp in the 1970s.

In 1987 Fiji the Travel Lodge Hotel had served as the base of operation in a coup backed by Emperor Gold and shipped by a subsidiary of Khashoggi Quintex. Ditto it was where the 2000 coup would also be planned financed by those involved in mining and forestry.

At the time that Kashoggi flew into Queenstown, racking up a five figured bar tab Kashoggi never paid, the Saudi Arms dealer was heavily involved in financing New Zealand Prime Minister Robert Muldoon ambition to industrialize New Zealand and develop the nation oil gas and mineral reserves. 

A deal which offered to lend the Muldoon the finance he needed to develop New Zealand industry.

Just one two conditions: – One we left our oil in the ground (at the time OPEC were trying to secure a monopoly of oil that would allow then to dictate global prices) Two: New Zealand, just like Russia twenty years later, would have open it legs wide to the new kind of firm.

Most of the brokering of this deal would be facilitated by Nelson Rockerfeller and Robert Anderson who ran Kashoggi Californian based Security Pacific National Bank which had begun life serving Californian gold miners of the 1849 rush. 

At the New Zealand end the ts and is would be covered by the BNZ which in the early 1980s would establish a branch in nearby Los Angelos later linked to the Americas Cup and a number of New Zealand more colorful fly by night operators. Their view shaped after seeing what the sporting event had done for Australian wheeler and dealer corporate raider Alan Bond (known in Australia as Bondie) image. Ironically it was at the Australian Americas Cup that South African mining magnate Tiny Rowland saw through Bond camouflage and reduced his house of cards to confetti.

Using the glory of the Americas Cup the bankers integrated themselves with New Zealand Labour Party. Labour, traditionally a party built on the working class and the strength of New Zealand red shirted mining unions, would take the bait. Soon they were replacing their traditional mining songs such as solidarity with the Unions to sing the Free market chorus of the Wolf of Wall Street Gordon Geck ‘Greed is Good’.

Labour embrace of the Free-Market economics would be spun by it master of Propaganda Christchurch MP Mike Moore the future head of the World Trade Organisation and UN Envoy on Global Migrations using the neoliberal line of the trickle-down affect. The wealth never did trickle down but Fay Richwhite as the Emperors new tailors did manage to disrobe New Zealand of a number of strategic assets including its rail and telecommunications network. And the pair repeated the trick in a number of Pacific Islands lured into disastrous hotel deals that saw them sell off public assetts to fund debts caused by such venture as the never completed Cook Island Sheeraton.

Meanwhile the Travel Lodge Hotel chain would be sold to a consortium of private tourism resort investors including American Earl Hagaman. The Christchurch based Hagerman’s interest in the Paradise Papers and New Zealand hotel venture in Niue would reveal the American and his syndicates links to both the National Party and Ross Adern, a top-ranking police officer and the former commissioner to Niue. Niue is one of the Paradise papers go to location for laundering shifty cash. Subsequent lawsuits concerning an alleged election donation would ultimately vindicated Andrew Little Labour opposition leader and a former mining unionist but not before he had to stand down and be replaced by Jacinda Ardern the daughter of Ross Ardern. A fact that not one media outlet has ever commented on.

Scenic Circle was sold to Hagarman own Queenstown syndicate of modern-day cut-throats and corporate raiders in 1981 for $100 million just two years before the Mosque in Christchurch was built and funded by Saudi government. It had been built on behalf of the Afghan refugee community who had come to Christchurch after the occupation of Afghanistan by the USSR in 1980. At this time the CIA referred to the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden as “gallant” freedom fighters as the USA matched the Saudi government in funding the Afghani resistance against Soviet occupation dollar for dollar.

And yes, they might be terrorist but as they were both enemies of the USSR that was ultimately all that such mattered to the sugar daddies who decided to fiancé such crews regardless of the flag that flew on the mast of their chosen causes.

Allers intervention post the Boliva incident would convince the organisation that had shut down the Molly Maguire for the mining companies the all seeing eye of the Pinkertons that the American mining industry considered the matter closed and the private investigation company closed it files and pursuit of the two well connected cowboys.

An event which would herald Latin Americas fate as in the 1970s, to protect US mining and smelting interest, the CIA had turned to big business American banks and the far right to keep the commies out of Latin America.

Their allies in this task would include American intelligence informants such as Nazi Klaus Barbi and Eichardt Mossack a Nazi werewolf turned diamond dealer. Come the 1980s to accomplish funding the far right Laton American death squads and the Islamic Jihadist guerilla war in Afghanistan Reagan’s crew would turn to the usual suspect of shady Swiss banks including those US authorities now link to the financing of the 911 attack and the FFOP scandal. Rusoro is active in Latin America, guided by a company called Endeavour Financial.

The assassination was promoted by the BCCI ‘spiritual guru’, Chandraswami, whose clients include Margaret Thatcher, according to Indian intelligence received from Toronto, Fiji, Sydney, and Dubai, who often went into rage at hearing Gandhi’s name: on one occasion screaming “I’ll finish him, Rajiv Gandhi will be killed the same way his mother was.” The report discussed documents seized from Chandraswami during the income tax raid by the Indian police, revealing how more than $11million was made by mining magnate Tiny Rowlands (on behalf of Chandraswami, a prominent player in the Iran Contra affair, into accounts in London and Monte Carlo at the bank of BCCI (at the same branches used by Abu Nidal for the receipt of payment made by Israeli intelligence assets).

This was a fairly logical step as BCCI had also been used by Nidal’s partner, Monzer Al Kassar, during the Iran Contra affair. Nidal, as I have noted, was reportedly in New Zealand in the early 90’s, at the time that Al Kassar was involved in the financial side of the covert arms delivery to Bosnia, which also happened in the 90’s and held a N.Z. component.

1998: Executive Outcomes links to the Sri Lankan Tigers, there “…have also been
reports of contacts with a well-known South African security ‘outfit’, ‘Executive Outcomes’, principally with a view to buying arms”. (Sunday Times (22.11. 1998) ‘Thatcher’s Gold’ (Paul Halloran, Simon & Schuster Inc May 1995), likewise reported on the former British PM Baroness Margaret Thatcher’s son Mark Thatcher’s interests in Sri Lanka, specifically his
role in arms deals. While Mark Thatcher’s role with South African mercenaries (specifically Executive Outcomes associates), in a failed coup attempt in oil rich Equatorial Guinea are also well reported.

August 14th, 1999, The Sydney Morning Herald published an expose on how corrupt Thai and Cambodian officials were turning out to be the key players in this Southeast Asia arms Bazaar. In this report, one official quote estimated that 80% of the weapons were being transported by sea. This claim was corroborated by the Sri Lankan government backed paper The Nation, which focused on how the sea transportation branch of this black market was handled chiefly by the Tamil Tigers (LTTE). This report was corroborated by the Herald Tribune (International Herald Tribune – Tuesday March 10, 1998, ‘A Tamil Tiger Primer on International Arms Bazaar’), a more politically neutral paper, that noted “weapons in the arsenal of the Tamil Tigers, the guerrilla army waging a war for an independent state on the island nation of Sri Lanka: surface-to-air missiles from Cambodia, assault rifles from Afghanistan, mortar shells from the former Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe, and 60 tons of explosives from Ukraine”. The report goes on to name the Sri Lankan Tigers’ (LTTE) chief arms trader as, “Kumaran Padmanathan”, claiming that with multiple passports and aliases, Mr. Padmanathan “travels widely but his main bases of operation have been Singapore, Rangoon, Bangkok and more recently Johannesburg.”

2000 The Weekend Herald reported that members of what appears to be a clandestine cell of Afghan refugees in Auckland continue to maintain direct telephone links with suspected terrorist organizations in their strife-torn homeland, including the Mujahadeen, a fundamentalist Muslim volunteer group. This followed New Zealand detectives having allegedly foiled a possible terrorist plot to target a nuclear reactor in Sydney, venue for next Olympic Games. How the cell got hold of maps and a police manual from the 1970’s Auckland Commonwealth game were never explained. Detectives in Auckland stumbled on the apparent reactor conspiracy during an investigation into people-smuggling by organised crime syndicates.

April 2000: Indian Central Bureau of Investigation, sent two officers of the Indian CBI, “Superintendent M. Thiagarajan and Deputy Superintendent R. Raju”, to Auckland in April 2000 to investigate Tamil arms dealer Kumaran Padmanathan’s New Zealand business connections, where they “interrogated three Tamil men, one of whom is understood to be a relative of Padmanathan”. They also
looked at front companies run out of Auckland on Padmanathan’s behalf. It is believed the business connections are in the marine industry, as Padmanathan is heavily involved in running the Tiger shipping empire”. Bingham also noted that the CBI interest in the
Tigers’ leadership and their interest in Kumaran Padmanathan’s N.Z. trip, relates to the May, 1991, “assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi “in the type of suicide-bombing attack it (LTTE –author nb) favours”

2000: Ben Vidgen and Ian Wishart Publish Pacific Jihad we wrote “New Zealand security agencies were placed on high alert prior to the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland after the discovery that Palestinian terrorist leader Abu Nidal was in the country. Security sources spoken to by Investigate confirm the terrorist was “sprung” by a former Israeli security official who was part of a group of Israeli tourists in Queenstown. And direct confirmation has also come from a Nelson doctor, Neal McCullum, whose Israeli friend was directly involved. n February of 1993 the World Trade Centre in New York was torn apart by a massive explosion. Several Muslim extremists linked to Osama bin Laden were later convicted.…The US Court heard that the group had prepared cyanide nerve gas that was supposed to detonate with the bomb and spread across central New York, killing some fifty thousand nearby residents and workers within minutes. Fortunately, the heat generated in the blast was so intense that it incinerated the cyanide gas before it left the building. Two years later, US investigators caught wind of a plot by bin Laden supporters to plant bombs on 12 airliners over the Pacific Ocean, set to explode almost simultaneously. Although the plan was foiled, those responsible remain at large…. former NZ Special Air Service commander Alan Brosnan, now an instructor for the US State Department’s Anti-terrorism Programme, says the FBI warnings about bin Laden’s Pacific plans should be taken seriously.”He certainly has the motive, and the means, to pull off such an operation.” The New Zealand Special Air Service has already had a taste of what we could be in for – NZ troopers were deployed in a secret mission against the Abu Sayyaf rebels in the Philippines, who also have ties to Osama bin Laden. One of the SAS soldiers reminded Investigate that NZ and Australia are not far away from the action anymore.

2001: during a Wellinton high court homicide trial relating to the murder of taxi driver, Mohamed Raffi Fuard, it surfaced that Mohamed had, prior to his death, claimed to have reportedly sold vehicles to the LTTE, one of which was used in bombing at a military
battle (19.92001 Dominion Post).

2002: The New Zealand Herald reported the Sri Lankan Tigers’ (LTTE) chief arms trader as, “Kumaran Padmanathan” as having visited New Zealand to set up front for fund raising and as cover for arms deals. The Herald’s, Eugene Bingham, noted further cases of past LTTE
connections, such as, “the intelligence officer and tax collector for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam …obtained a New Zealand student visa and fled when he was tipped off that the Sri Lankan military were after him.

2002: New Zealand authorities learned the 29-year-old immigrant to New Zealand had spent two years gathering intelligence about Government supporters, extorting taxes for the Tamil Tigers from locals, and working for the rebels in a Kandy hotel, a job that involved harboring Tiger operatives and hiding their stashes of weapons and explosives. He admitted to New Zealand immigration officials that he had known about the bombing of Sri Lanka’s Central Bank in January, 1996, which killed more than 90 people in one of the war-ravaged country’s deadliest blasts. This is the same cell responsible for the bombing in Sri Lanka weeks after the Christchurch Mosque attack by Islamic terrorist. An elusive leader of the Tigers made an important trip to visit New Zealand business associates, who include one of his relatives. The New Zealand Herald also noted

* There are New Zealand connections with the group’s shipping network, a fleet that is believed to ferry explosives and arms.

* There is evidence of people-smuggling operations suspected of being run by the Tigers, and allegations by a Tamil man that he escaped to Australia after New Zealand-based Tigers hired local gangs to threaten him.

* Pamphlets suggesting that Tigers’ front organisations are raising funds in New Zealand have circulated in Auckland. But leaders of the 5000-strong New Zealand Tamil community dismiss them as propaganda pedalled by the Sri Lankan High Commission.

2002: A series of letters containing an unknown white powder (not cyanide as some government connected sights claim) were sent containing threats to attack US golfer Tiger Woods during his 2002 visit to New Zealand, prompting a significant increase to the security around him. White powder was also found outside of the offices of what is now called Kordia which began it life in WW2, according to para-politics investigator Toby Truell, the editor of Wellington Confidential a 1980 political gossip broad sheet as the heart of government propaganda. The agency which is staffed by ex US and British intelligence officers has a staggering number of fake bomb threats take place around its officers in New Zealand

2004 Eleven fake New Zealand passports seized in Bangkok may be linked to al Qaeda terrorists and human traffickers in Europe, say Thai police. Crime Suppression Division commander Kosin Hinthao said New Zealand police had identified the passport identification numbers as similar to those used by human traffickers and al Qaeda terrorists in Europe.

2006: a Saudi national on a Yemeni passport, Rayed Mohammed Abdullah Ali was arrested in Palmerston North, having been identified as previously associated with the 9/11 attackers while living in the US.

2008 a Somali refugee boarded a regional flight from Blenheim to Christ- church; after the flight had taken off, she threatened the pilots with a knife and claimed to have a bomb. In the course of the flight, she stated that she wanted to fly to Australia, or crash into the sea and told passengers they were going to die. This appears more a case of mental health than legitimate terrorism though.

2014 An Australian and a New Zealander with links to terrorism were killed in November during a drone strike in Yemen, the New Zealand Prime minister John Key said he believed the New Zealander had attended a terrorist training camp. He said that among those killed in the strike were three known al-Qaida operatives. Documents obtained under Australia’s Freedom of Information laws by the Australian 7.30 current affairs programme show Chris Havard and Daryl Jones had been on an Australian Federal Police (AFP) watch list because of their links to the banned al-Qaeda banned in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) terror group.

“The pair had reportedly met at a mosque in Christchurch” reported 7.30. Havard told his parents it was during his time at the Christchurch Mosque that he first encountered radical Islam. Prime Minister John Key stated people were being radicalized in New Zealand and security services are keeping a watch on them. You can’t help thinking when you look at the many red flag missed by my country’s security forces and police some of which I list in this entry and others I have listed previously that hardly an encouraging or reassuring statement based on their past record.

Selective Amnesia.

In my view the only real mystery that remains behind the likes of tragedy of 911 and March 15th is how did they manage to take place in the first place. Because like March 15th attack, here in New Zealand, authorities did not just miss a few red lights they ignored an entire flashing dashboard. The fact is there wouldn’t need to be anyone keeping watch if our own governments would stop funding such organization or brotherhoods to begin with. Or more accurately stopped turning a blind eye to those who are in the name of profit.

Sometimes people suggest 911 was an inside job I personally think that a simplification of what took place. To simplify economics not ideology is what drove the event that made 911 a possibility.

More realistically it was an attack which was permitted to occur as Washingtons Neoliberal and Neoconservative Hawks desperately needed it to happen to for-fill their own goals and ambitions not for America or the ‘free world’ but to meet the ambitions of the various private clubs,’ exclusive brotherhoods, industry lobby groups and various other cogs and wheels that keep the wheels on the bus going round and round in the name of progress and commerce. And in doing so ultimately centralize power and wealth into the hands of the few at the expense of the many. There is no illuminati, club of 12, or singular network pulling the levers and pushing the buttons but there is avarice and there is ambition. Which in America case was set in motion the moment Jefferson threw away the idea of small government when he accepted Louisiana from the French as part of the USA and suddenly found himself needing the resources to manage this expansion.

And ambitions for more land, more resources and out right self entiltlement have long continued with a serious of succession including California and Texas. Assimilation of territories controlled by Mexico supported by such lobby groups and organisations like the secretive brotherhood of the Native Sons of the Golden Dawn who declared their mission was to “preserve the vision of California gold miners of 1849”. Those who took the lands and gold of Mexico for their own.

A vision of imperialism justified by race and religion superiority which continued with men like Sam Houston who like wise advocated for a federalist republic as Moonlight and his follow sailors jumped shipped and formed their own brotherhood built on the bonds they had already forged at sea lured onto land by the riches of the new world. A new world whose militarized economy required constant expansion because like a shark if this variant of the Federal republicanism ever stopped swimming, ever stopped feeding it would sink and go belly up. The appetite of this resource hungry form of federalism was a dragon that never stopped eating.
