On anniversary of Chch shooting in which 51 Christchurch residents lost their lives in a mass shooting their are fresh calls for “Muslim groups” and political “activists” for greater gun control and censorship. Translated more guns and control for the state.

Dont ge me wrong my view is automatics have no place in the bush and no place in NZ gun shops peroid!

So my issues not the doing away with semi automatics ( I agree and while your at it let’s stop arming non specialist police units who lack the training and psychology to be anything but a menace). Rather its the selectative ammesia on greater law for gun control and censorship that bugs me.

It all smells very much like a self servimg attempt to seize opportunity from crisis. One that dodges the authorities own goal role in a very preventable tragedy.

My time line of events is as follows.

2012 Comitee headed by Jacinda Ardern permits online sale despite warning not to do this from fire arms experts.

2015 ODT and New Zealand Herald ran issues on gun clubs in 2011 and guns brought on line after interviewing gunshop owner Selwyn Skank.

Otago coastal area commander Inspector Mel Aitken said private gun sales, especially internet trading, was not a current priority for Dunedin police as they had not been made aware of any particular issues”.

I ran similar articles focusing on gun club Gun Cities ties to far right mercenaries group in Deadline from 2007- 2017.

2015 Otago University shut down due to threats made on 4chan 8chan by an individual with potentially the same linguistic signature as shooter according to Auckland University.

Note the 2015 incident enrirely contradict police claims they were not monitoring 4 and 8 Chan.

2017 Shooter now in Dunedin when ODT reported numerous hand guns stolen from same pistol club who sponsored his gun license. The Dunedin Pistol club is the sister to the Dunedin Rifle club he belonged too.

Also stolen from an unlocked safe 25,000s round and the club log books.

Police investigate club not censored or prosecuted for failure to secure weapons.

Small fraction recovered from gangs involved robbery. Namely the Banditoes who Dunedin chapter was originally the Southern Vikings part of the far right family in New Zealand.

2018 2019 Numerous resident broken into in Dunedin who where in the log book. Chief items stolen fire arms. Fair to say in this peroid Dunedin was suffering an epidemic of gun burglaries and the need to vet gun storage was at an all time high.

2017-2019 said rifle clubs were subject to numerous complaints due to dodgey right wing types ( going back to a certain merc firm with offices just doors away from Odt – famous for their fight club and far right gang associations), including those made by a highly decorated military veteran and police where contacted by ammo supplier of Tarrant  whose submission was cut halfway through a live stream that dammed vetting authorities.

2021 Royal Inquiry down plays warnings while calling the veteran basically a liar.

Police officer responsible ( who belong to a very famous police old boys club which while under investigation for its many many many foibles by no less than a chief justice hired a PI to dig dirt on her).

Not to mention shooter was armed by Gun City which got done in the 1980s for arming Chritian nut jobs.

Gum City also accused of arming far right South American mercenaries, as named by Peace Researcher in 1991.

Gun City armed mass shooter David Gray, armed gangs repeatedly, armed suspects in Operation 8 terror beat up in 2007.

Gun Citys owner David Tipple was arrested for buying guns from far right in USA and spent 21 months incarcerated.

Oddly he can still travel overseas while Marry Tolly Aljazerra (who did a piece on Gun Citys many, many,many, foibles) was not allowed into NZ? allegedly because of complaint made against her by a dictator in Maylasia.

I named Gun City in my 99 best sellers State Secrets in relation to his numerous sloppy practices, personal scandals and ties to Chch far right mercenary scene.

I also named Kyle Chapman National Front and the founder of the Right Wing Resistance. RWR had ties to shooter and sent mercenaries, Australian Neo Nazis, to the Ukraine where authorities confirmed the Christchurch shooter was active.

Chapman ran New Way Trust a charity funded by NZ Police and PM office from 1990s to 2014 until he got caught diddling the charities books. That was nearly 15 years after I questioned the merit of the state funding far right groups. Especially one connected to an active far right type with a history of political violence.

After returning to Christchurch Chapman the “reformed” skin head founded the Right Wing Restance before associating him self with Sue Grey’s NZ Freedom Outdoors Party.

Outdoors inturn aligned it self with another fan of Gun City Bishop Brian Tamaki Freedom Party who won less than 9000 votes after trying to Hitch a ride with shooters. Those disgruntled by government overreach in the face of failing to own their own role in failing to prevent the shootings. As voting turn out shows most saw through the roost.

My view are the laws are mostly adequate.

The oversight and accountability, of those responsible for mass failure, at the top the real issue here. And let’s not forget that and not let it be used by neoliberals (or arch conservatives), to gain more power while they seize opportunity from crisis and our collective social ammesia
